Take part, take heart | Alpha Phi RDG Recap

Posted in Lifestyle
on 01/31/2016

Hey frands! In the midst of my crazy busy Sunday (you can catch me studying ALL DAY… two tests next week y’all), I wanted to take a moment to recap my chapter’s second annual Red Dress Gala. First off, I’ll give y’all a little background on Red Dress Gala, or RDG. RDG is Alpha Phi’s annual philanthropic event to raise money for our philantrophy, the Alpha Phi Foundation. We were actually the first fraternity to have their own foundation (geaux A PHI) and the foundation supports women’s heart health, which is the number one killer of women in the US.  It is a night full of fun for the cause. We have silent and live actions, presentation of the freshman pledge class, dinner and dancing as well as multiple fun photo booths! The night was amazing, and we raised so much money on behalf of our chapter to go to the foundation! Here’s a lil sneak peak of my night…

 Red dress // Nude heels // Mini MAC // MK Sport Watch // Chunky Chain link bracelet {similar} // Alpha Phi bar necklace

Since it was the Red Dress Gala, we all had to wear red dresses (candy apple red to be exact) and nude heels. My dress was a very simple one from Lulu’s and I just added a simple Alpha Phi Bar necklace as well as some nude heels from Jessica Simpson. For jewelry, I wore my MK Sport Watch, as usual and a chunky gold bracelet from Stella and Dot.

Are any of you Alpha Phi’s? What did you wear to your RDG?

Life Lately | January Edition

Posted in Lifestyle
on 01/27/2016

How the heck is it already almost February 2016?! I still can’t believe it y’all. I didn’t get to do a recap of my December so I definitely wanted to make a point to do a recap of my January. So many fun things happened this month- NYE, going back to school, celebrating my 19th birthday, taking a few trips to NOLA, etc. Keep on reading to get the scoop on how January was for me.

IMG_8520

Well truth be told, I took this picture at the end of December, but I love it too much I had to feature it in this post. My fam bam and I celebrated my big’s being presented into society as a deb in good ole Baton Rouge. The ball was such a fun time and there was even breakfast for dinner #blessed after a night of dancing.

img_8588.jpeg

Most low-key NYE ever happened this year. We made home-made pizza (which was delish) and then popped some champagne at midnight. Not to mention, we all wore our P J’s which made everything 1000x cuter.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

To commemorate our wonderful winter break, we had tea at the beginning of January. I got Chai tea (I got it from my mama- we’re both obsessed with chai) and an english muffin with some strawberry jam. I always love sampling the tea everyone orders, and then deciding mine’s the best (lol).

 img_8758.jpeg

I made this car decal for a coworker of mine. It’s about five inches big and I love how it turned out with the color and the font. Still trying to decide if I’d like to put these up on my shop… Let me know what y’all think.

IMG_8636

Going green in NOLA. This ensemble was featured in one of my recent posts. Maddie, Zach and I spent the day in NOLA and took some fun pictures. Although it was super cold outside, we still had such a fun time romping around. How much do y’all love this green Ray Ban and green Hunter boot combo? I’m 10/10 obsessed.

img_8790.jpeg

Manicure SUNday this month was this creamy grey color… It’s such a change of pace from my usual Lincoln Park after Dark. Light grey hues are in for this winter, they’re so easy to wear with anything. PS: Shoutout to my sis, Cat, for the mug! Check out her blog here.

img_8827.jpeg

A super high quality picture for a super high quality birthday, right? Lol at me. 19 has never felt so good. My friends and family really made my day so special this year! NOLA and Baton Rouge couldn’t handle my crew… We rocked the socks off of both cities.

Just a lil something to leave y’all with…

You’re only 19 once… | My Birthday Wishlist

Posted in Uncategorized
on 01/20/2016

The time has come once again… it’s finally my birthday this weekend (January 23)! In preparation for questions from family members, friends and my parents- here’s what I’m wishing for this year (hint, hint Mom and Dad).

birthday-wishlist-1-lgip

Kendra Scott Elisa // Cannon Rebel T3i // Phone Case // FitBit Flex //Ray Ban Aviators

// Cannon Rebel T3i //

As my blog grows, I’ve found the need for a new camera. The camera I currently use is my sisters (thanks Reag), and I’ve overstayed my welcome with it quite a bit. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this camera, and it was reasonably priced, so I wanted to give it a try. It’s got a flip out screen and it shoots video in 1800 HP. I’m super excited to finally have a nice camera of my own. Going from a Nikon to a Cannon is gonna be a big step, but I think I’m going to enjoy using something different.

// Kendra Scott Elisa //

I’m so disappointed in myself and I recently lost my Kendra Scott Elisa between LSU and home during break :( I loved that necklace so much, it really does look fantastic with anything. Layering it with my gold Alpha Phi necklace dressed up my usual uniform of a tee-shirt and yoga pants. I had a minty green color for my last one, but the amethyst color is catching my eye. Plus I have 50% of one item for my birthday month at Kendra Scott so I may just end up buying this one for myself! ;)

// Phone Case //

I ended up getting a new phone because my other phone screen shattered to pieces (the MINUTE I took off my glass screen protector) and I had insurance on it. The Speck case I have now is kinda beaten up so I am on the market for a new one. The case doesn’t even have to have that much protection due to the fact that I have the glass screen protector which has saved my life many, many times (Get it here). Casify has such adorable cases and I thought this one would be so stinking cute for my phone. It’s got some protection in it which is always a plus, regardless of whether or not I need it!

// Fit Bit //

In my quest to TRY to be healthier this year (keyword: try), I’ve been super interested in getting a FitBit. This one is really sleek and compact, and it tells you steps, distance, calories burned and sleep. I love the black color because it will go with anything. I do a lot of walking around campus, so I’m always yearning to know how many steps I’m taking per day! I’ve heard a lot of great things about this Fitbit, so that always helps too!

// Ray Ban Aviators //

Do y’all think I’m crazy yet? I am clearly obsessed with sunglasses and this further proves it. They are always a go to when someone doesn’t know what to get me. I love the Aviators from Ray Ban, and I think this golden brown ombre is really different. I think they would look good with my dark hair and dark eyebrows!

When is your birthday? Have you started making a wish list?

Gettin’ my school on | 5 Things you Should do at the Start of a new Semester

Posted in Lifestyle
on 01/13/2016

5-things-to-do-at-the-start-of-a-new-semester-1-lgip

Well y’all, it’s officially that time to get back into the school grind. Spring semester has arrived, and I am feeling motivated, ready to accomplish everything I didn’t last semester. I finally get to take my major classes and I am so excited to jump right into the fashion world and all it has to offer. At the start of a semester, I always like to get all of my stuff together. Here are five things I always am sure to take care of before a new semester…

// one / plan out my schedule visually //

The system that we use at LSU, doesn’t show our schedule to us in a block format, but just as a list of times and classes. I personally am such a visual person, I need to see everything blocked out to get a sense of what my day/week will look like. I use myEdu to do this, and it’s awesome because it actually knows all of LSU’s courses and will come up with times and professors when you enter a course number. You can also make a profile that allows you to track your degree progress and browse for jobs.

// two / syllabus, syllabus, syllabus //

As a general rule of thumb for any course, I always read through the course syllabus before going to class. I like to start putting dates into my calendar and most professors already have the whole semester planned out. The course syllabus helps me to know what to expect as far as grades go, how many tests I’ll have and what format they’ll be in, as well as my professor’s office hours.

// three / rate my professor //

I like to check Rate my Professor before I get to class. It’s super helpful to hear feedback from other students on whether or not to buy the textbook, take good notes, etc.

// four / make a rough outline of the semester in my planner//

When I know where my semester is headed, I feel a lot less anxious. Using my syllabus, I like to put some rough dates in my calendar so I can start to plan ahead. At the beginning of the semester I also pick my color pen for each class, which I use to write in my planner with.

// five / school supplies //

For the most part, I don’t need extra supplies per class, so I like to pick up some basics before the start of a semester. My first semester I used a huge five subject notebook, which I liked, but this semester I’ve decided to use a binder since a lot of my classes involve print outs. I used a binder all throughout high school and I loved how organized everything was. I always pick up some nice new pens (my faves are Sharpie pens) and some loose leaf paper too.

What do y’all do at the start of a new semester?

I finally was able to take a real break this week and I always love the idea of playing tourist in my own city for fun. Living in Baton Rouge, we don’t get to go to NOLA as much as I did in high school since it’s not the quickest trip. When I’m home, I make it a point to head into the city. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and hopefully someday I’ll be able to live there.

Maddie, Zach and I went Uptown to Magazine Street, Oak Street and St. Charles to do a little exploring and picture taking. The weather has been super duper bi-polar this winter, and it was surprisingly actually pretty chilly. I’m one of those people who wouldn’t dare to ruin an outfit with some chunky layers just to keep warm, so of course I had to stay warm in style.

Maddie and I both chose to rock our Hunters (which we LUURRVE) and some jeans. We are super into ripped jeans, especially in this medium wash. I opted for a monochromatic top half featuring a chunky oatmeal colored knit sweater from Madewell (which I borrowed from Maddie #blessed), and my cream quilted puffer vest from J Crew. Maddie is sporting a pale pale blue colored basic tee from Urban and for warmth she added an olive army-inspired jacket and chunky scarf.

I took a few shots of Zach just to show y’all how much he was SLAYING. There are so many things I could say about Zach, but really I’ll just leave it at the fact that he used to wear ugly tennis shoes and jeans… Look at him now. Started from the bottom now he’s here. Zach doesn’t get cold easily so he opted for some short navy shorts with a belt, basic white tee and denim jacket. His urban, yet preppy look wasn’t complete without a Vineyard Vines hat and some Adidas Stan Smiths.

Cheers to 2016! | LGIP New Years Resolutions

Posted in Lifestyle
on 01/03/2016

cheers-to-2016-lgip

Hey y’all, this is my first post of 2016 ahh. I thought it would only be fitting to talk with y’all about my new years resolutions (actually I’d like to call them goals because that is more what they are) and some things I hope to accomplish this upcoming year.

// Make a blog schedule and stick to it //

Last semester, I really struggled to keep up with my blog schedule. I had originally hoped to post three times a week, but I think that at the time that was too much for me. Getting adjusted to college and sorority life was hard on my time management skills. This year, I’d like to have new posts up on Sundays and Wednesdays. I can plan content ad take pictures in between/ahead of schedule. If I can plan out my whole month in advance, it’ll help me bunches as well!

// Work out at least once a week //

Classic. Yes, I know. I think that working out once a week is a very attainable goal. I feel like since I’ve been at school, my diet has gone down the drain and I have started to eat poorly in addition to not working out. I would just like to keep myself at an ideal healthy weight and start to tone some muscle!

// Take fashion risks //

I’d definitely like to try and take some risks with my style and mix things up a lil! I really tend to play things super safe, which is fine, but taking risks will push me out of my comfort zone, which is something I think would be fantastic for me. I’ll keep y’all updated on this one!

// Continue to put away money for my college fund //

As I earn money here and there (since I don’t normally work but on breaks), I want to start putting away a small fraction of it for my college savings. I’ve depleted some within my first semester, but I need to be saving for upcoming semesters sorority as well as my extra fees.

// Grow my business as well as my blog //

Through social media, as well as word of mouth, I hope to continue to grow my blog as well as Etsy shop, the brunette and co. I would love to be able to utilize my blog as an outlet to propel me into the fashion industry. Brunette and co. will help me learn time management, money management as well as marketing skills I will be able to apply to my career.

// Become more involved in Alpha Phi //

Being on our executive board as Director of finance will help me get involved through service. I really hope that I can meet some more sisters whom I don’t already know, and make a positive impact on the Greek life experience of other sisters.

What are your new years resolutions for 2016? Let me know in the comments!

All I want for Christmas is…. | LGIP Christmas List 2015

Posted in Lifestyle
on 12/21/2015

Is it just me or is it every time Christmas rolls around I have the HARDEST time coming up with a list? Throughout the year I am always on Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram and seeing things that make me go “OMG I WANT!” but then Christmas list making comes and hits me like a brick. I seriously struggled this year, y’all. I think the older I get, the more I realize that I don’t really need anything for Christmas, ya know? Well after some thought, I present to you my Christmas List 2015.

all-i-want-for-christmas-is-1-lgip

Ray Ban Aviators // J Crew Factory PJ Set // Blanket Scarf // S’well Bottle

// Ray Ban Aviators //

As you all well know- I am sunglass obsessed. Back in July, I broke my favorite pair of Ray Ban Aviators {I talk about this and about my newer pair in this post}. It was such a sad day for me… I had those glasses for four years. They were the first pair I was able to keep up with in the history of EVER. Nevertheless, I miss them dearly and thought I would ask for a new pair of them for Christmas this year.

// J Crew Factory PJ Set //

I’ve recently been on a PJ kick.. Is that even I real thing? I’m not sure but all I know is I’ve been really wanting a PJ set to cozy up in on Sunday mornings when I have nothing to do. Sleeping in a PJ set actually makes me feel like I have my life together somewhat.. lol only me. I plan on monogramming these to add my own flair to them!

// Blanket Scarf //

Blanket scarves are all the rage this season. I’ve seen them on my Instagram feed at least once a day for the past month or two. I love scarves but unfortunately it hasn’t really been cold enough here for me to rock them :( I’m hoping the weather will cool down and I can rock a chunky blanket scarf one day! A girl can only dream….

// S’well Bottle //

Along with being sunglass, PJ and scarf obsessed at the moment, I have always been a fan of water bottles. My favorite are Camelbacks and Tervis Tumblers. I always bring a bottle of water with me to work or to my classes to be sure I’m staying hydrated. Having an adorable water bottle really does make me want to drink water. S’well bottles keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 12 hours. They’ve got so many patterns and colors, it was so hard to choose.

Well there you have it readers, my 2015 Christmas List. What are y’all asking for this year? Any of the same things that are on my list?

And if you’re still doing some last minute shopping… believe me I feel your pain. Keep this in mind!

yougotthis1

Much love y’all. Until next post..

Life Lately | November Edition

Posted in Lifestyle
on 12/01/2015

Hi my friends!! I am so sorry for the lack of posts last week, as I was off of school for a few days and literally the only thing I wanted to do was lie in bed all day. I’m trying to get on a regular posting schedule, so y’all can expect posts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from me for now on. I wanted to compile a few pictures and just check in with y’all about what’s been happening in my life lately!

life-lately-nov-edition-1-lgip

Here’s a lil sneak peak of what I wore to the last LSU home game versus Texas A&M this weekend. The weather was super weird.. It was overcast but extremely hot during the day and once we got into the game, it was perfect. I styled a bronze sequin skirt with a chunky high low sweater, a long freshwater pearl necklace. black booties and my Ray Ban aviators- obvi. Maddie is wearing an adorable pair of black suede shorts with an oatmeal colored sweater and a grey necklace wrapped twice (so it’s a choker and long). She wore some beige F21 booties with it and topped things off with her black Ray Bans.

The game was so much fun, considering it was like a little high school reunion. My friend, Gavin came into town from the Big Apple to spend the week in LA for Thanksgiving. I also had my high school friends Madeline and Sophia come into town for the game. The Tigers were finally able to get their stuff together and pull out a W! Les Miles coached what we thought was his last game with LSU and it was very emotional. He got carried off the field by the players only to find out that his job was safe and he would be our coach next year. Yay! To that I say #LesIsMore!

life-lately-nov-edition-2-lgip

Baton Rouge can get boring on non-home game weekends (aka LSU vs Ole Miss), so my gal pals and I decided to head out to a cute girls dinner, followed by a night on the town (at Tigerland, that is. Classy, right?). We all got dressed up super super cute and hit up our local Mexican restaurant for some rocking food. I am stealing some outfit inspo from these ladies next time I head out- they all looked too cute! I love having fun girls nights out every once in a while!

life-lately-nov-edition-3-lgip
I was recently elected to my chapter’s executive council as Director of Finance. It’s a super heavy load and a huge responsibility being in charge of everyone’s money- but I’m up for the task. I wanted to get involved in my chapter and I thought that jumping right into exec would be a great way to do so. I am so excited for the upcoming year to grow as an Alpha Phi with this group of women. While you’re at it, check out my chapter’s Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook and website.

Who is excited for the Christmas Season? I know I am!!
