Well y’all I apologize for the lack of posts this past week. I could go on and on about how I was so busy blah, blah, blah, but I’m sure y’all don’t wanna hear it. In case you aren’t sure what’s going on in my life, here’s a quick recap: I moved into my freshman dorm at LSU last week. The day after I started a week of hell known as rush (it’s a HUGE deal here y’all). That next Saturday I got my bid and ran home. This week I started college classes, and I’m exhausted everyday because of how far I have to walk (6 miles on Tuesday and Thursday… no thanks). I figured I’d give y’all a little wrap up of how my first week as a college freshman is going right now!

Dorm Life //

Honestly I knew where I would be living this year was not the nicest, nor the cleanest but that the experience would be what sets it apart. I’m living in the only all girls hall on campus, which is so nice because of it’s location, but it’s aesthetic is just a no. My froomie and I have attempted to spice up our lovely cinderblock walls and tile floors, but we’ve still got a ways to go to make this place feel like home. (Pictures soon to come!) Using the hall bath is something I’ve gotten used to this past week, but I definitely miss being able to shower WITHOUT SHOES ON. Ah, it’s the simple things that can make me happy now.

Rush Week //

I had been told about rush week, but I never in a million years expected it to be what it was. You wait in line for your parties and all of the sudden the door swings open and 300 gorgeous faces are bouncing and clapping welcoming you into their home and sisterhood. It’s so hard to describe the whole process to someone who has not been through it. Throughout the week, I walked into houses I did not like/feel comfortable in and some houses where I felt safe and welcomed immediately. By preference round, I has three houses- two which I really liked and one which I was head over heels for. On Bid Day, my stomach was in knots, I felt like something was up. When I saw my bid, I was in shock. The house that I loved so much and had cried my eyes out to the night before was not listed. All of the other girls in my group, ran screaming and smiling to their new homes while I was standing there in shock. I talked to my Gamma Chi and she asked me if I’d be willing to try it out for today- I knew this was my one and only shot at Greek Life, so I agreed to. Although I don’t know many girls yet- I am positive I was put in that house for a reason. Although I did not get my first choice, I can say I ended up where I needed to be.

College Classes //

Enter broke college kid. People always joked about selling their organs to pay for textbooks and I used to laugh and think they were a little odd. But man, it’s crazy how much textbooks can really cost you. $500 later and I now know how it feels to watch an entire paycheck or two go out the window for some textbooks. Besides textbooks, my classes are fine. It’s different than high school and it honestly doesn’t even feel like I’m in school yet (I guess because I don’t have a lot of homework or anything yet). I’ll be posting some school organization stuff soon for y’all.

I’m so excited to share more college experiences with y’all! Let me know any posts you’d like to see from me in the comments below!

On my radar

Posted in Lifestyle
on 07/26/2015

This week has been a constant blur of work, blogging, and eating (I mean can it get any better?!). I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy by researching blog ideas- I’ve found one I think is so interesting- a weekly sort of round-up, if will. I’ll share links, movies, photos, books- pretty much anything I’m currently finding intriguing/interesting this week!

One // Eye-Catching Shoes That Made the Outfit

Abigail Spencer is totally rocking this vintage 1960’s vibe. Her graphic shift dress with exposed zippers paired with her emerald green and white Malone Souliers is making me swoon. I’m definitely taking some outfit insp from this one!

Two // 3D Printing Clothes

Y’all I think is just about the coolest thing I’ve seen. A fashion student printed a ready to wear collection entirely using a 3D printer. Her designs are so simplistic but so chic. And, the movement of the clothes- wow.

Three // Stitches by Shawn Mendes

It’s official, I’m obsessed. I’ve always loved Shawn Mendes and after seeing him on Taylor’s 1989 tour- I fell more in love. He is so humble, and did I mention he is adorable? This song has been stuck in my head all week, it’s so dang catchy!

Four // Gigi New York Desert Rose Zip Pouch

I’m in need of a new wallet, and I was browsing on Gigi NY’s site, when I stumbled upon this bad boy! It’s so adorable and it’s ON SALE (possibly some of my favorite words)! This color is perfect because it’s a neutral and will match with any purse I’m currently using! I think I may have to splurge and purchase this!

Five // Lemon Water

Yes I know this is random, but hey, it’s a favorite! I’ve been drinking lemon water by the gallon lately (I’m not even kidding). It’s super good for you! Lemon water acts a natural detox, as well as helping with blemishes, freshening breath, and it’s helping me cut coke out of my diet too (acts as caffeine)

What’s on your radar? Tell me below in the comments?

Chambray popover {similar} // Textured white shorts {similar} // Jack Rogers // Black faux leather tote {similar} // MK sport tortise watch // stella&dot gold chain-link bracelet // Ray Ban Clubmasters // Monogram necklace

How adorable is this combo?! I’m so obessed with easy outfits for the summer. Just throw on some chinos and a shirt, and I’m good to go. Today I styled my Bananna Republic textured chinos with a chambray popover from Old Navy. Unfortunately both of these items are out of season so I linked something similiar for both! I’m really digging the simplicty of this outfit.

As for accessories, I’m sporting my MK sport watch in tortise (Are y’all seeing a trend here? This is my fave everyday watch! Expect to see it again!), and this gorgeous gold chain bracelet from stella&dot. The piece is so great to stack with a watch and some bangles. It’s so eye catching and I love how simple it is! My 3 inch monogram necklace makes its return as well (another everyday staple of mine! I may have to get a new one soon, considering I’ve worn this baby down!). I’m still carrying my Forver 21 black faux-leather tote because I can fit soo much stuff in it! Today I managed to fit my computer, camera, a book, my agenda and a notebook in this bad boy! Not too shabby for a bargain bag! I’m also wearing my Ray Ban Clubmasters (remember how I told y’all I was a sunglass hoarder. Well here’s exhibit A.), which are the cutest! I can’t get over the vintage vibe they add to the look.

I’m wearing my Jacks as well, no surprise. These are the Hamptons sandals in bone with white whipstitching.

Is there any thing y’all want to see on the blog? Give me your suggestions below in the comments!

Holy cow, mail day is my favorite thing. When I got home today, I was so overjoyed to see I received these bad boys in the mail! In Maine recently, I broke my Ray Ban Large Aviators with the green lenses and gold frame. I was so devastated. It’s a good thing I’m a sunglass hoarder and brought two pairs with me!

I immediately knew I needed to replace the pair I had broken. My aviators are such a staple in my wardrobe– I never leave the house without them! They provide sun protection and style! I hopped onto eBay and ended up finding a new pair in the box and everything for $70! How crazy is that? I’m super into eBay, so I have some strategies I use to win bids (lol eBay ain’t no joke!) and they helped me win this pair!

Now onto the specs: these are the Ray Ban Large Metal Aviator sunglasses (style number RB3025) with green flash lenses. And let me just say– I’m so so in love. They have matte gold frames, which I’ve never actually seen before, so I thought that was unique. The large aviator style is the perfect size for my face (I wouldn’t say I have a particularly big or small face, but normal size). I’m loving how much glam they add to any look. They are the perfect accessory to top off any summer look. Ugh I’m seriously imagining soo many outfits I could make with these bad boys. They definitely grab attention!

If you’re in the market for a pair of sunglasses, I would 10/10 recommend the Ray Ban Large Aviators. Regardless of what color lenses and/or frame, you’ll end up loving them.

Do you have a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses? If so, what kind?

First things first

Posted in Uncategorized
on 07/17/2015

Let’s get this straight- I am not a “blogger.” I don’t exactly have a way with words. I’m not always sure of what to say. But one thing I do know is that I love (I mean LOOOVE) fashion, and beauty and all things us southern girls pride ourselves on. I’m starting this blog as a creative outlet for me to write about fashion, and beauty, and life in general.

First things first, I’ll tell you a bit about me. My name is Madison. I am a freshman in college at Louisiana State University (can I get a GEAUX TIGERS?!). I’m going to be majoring in Fashion Merchandising, with hopes of one day being a buyer for a big company or owning my own boutique. I’ll be rushing as well, so I hope to definitely write about my rush experience and future sisterhood (fingers crossed!). I am a dog lover, as well as a perfectionist, and somewhat dramatic.

Anyways, to the point of this post (I’m sure you can tell by now that I may like to babble… just a little bit)- I have high hopes for this blog. I hope that by me sharing my journey, you’ll find inspiration and have a few laughs along the way. So without further ado….. I present to you, Louisiana Girl in Pearls.
