Fall Finds | Dressing for an NYC Fall

Posted in Fashion
on 10/19/2020

It’s me! Back once again, on my little corner of the internet. It’s cooling down up here in NYC and I am desperately trying to snatch up any coat/jacket/sweater (that’s on sale) to keep me warm. Granted I’ve pretty much spent most of my free time lately, I figured I’d help you if you’re in the same boat. So here’s a nice long list of a bunch of fun fall finds that I want on my body this szn! Now I’m not a big fall gal, but seeing the leaves change up here is getting me a little excited to actually be able to wear a sweater in October and not be dripping in sweat!

With that being said, I’ll go ahead and break down some items on my fall wishlist this year! Maybe ya’ll can share some with me too? You know I’m always down to spend money I don’t have!

JACKETS (a new concept for me, tbh. I am loving dabbling in this ish!)

BOOTS (cowboy and combat is all the rage this year)

PRO TIP: SPEND MONEY ON BASICS YOU’LL REWEAR SZN AFTER SZN (JACKETS, DENIM, NICE BOOTS)

SWEATERS

JEANS

ACCESSORIES

Hope y’all are into these pieces like I am! Let me know if you need help shopping for anything else this season!!

What’s in my shopping cart this fall?!

FALL FASHION IS TOO GOOD, Y’ALL. Although my bank account does not thank me for splurging, my closet sure does. Since it’s finally cooling down over here in Louisiana (on a good day) I figured I would share with y’all a few things I am dying for!

TOPS

I swear everything I love this season is pink, blue, or animal print? Not sure what’s going on in my mind that’s making me think this way but I love it! As far as animal print is concerned, this jacket has me going INSANE. I need it. Bombers are in this year and I looove anything faux fur! Plus it’s under $100 price tag? *Add to cart*

Sweater season is back and although I may just suffocate if I wear a thick sweater with jeans and boots, I will sure as heck be wearing them with skirts and shorts galore! Some of my favorites this year are from Asos, Forever 21, and Free People. No surprise here! I’ll link this adorable pink balloon sleeve sweater (under $50), my favorite striped sweater, and a warm and fuzzy mock-neck you need to get your hands on.

BOTTOMS

I’m all about that comfort level when it actually gets cold. These leggings are my savior! They are comfortable, warm, AND have a wide wasitband that sucks it all in! I have the plain black pair from two years ago so I figure I should invest in another pair. The camo is calling my name!

In a recent Instagram poll on what y’all wanted to see, I got a request for going out clothes (on a budget). I’ll get to that full post eventually but here’s a sneak peak for ya. These shorts. Rose gold faux-leather can it really get any more fab than that? They’re under $60 and they are just so dang fun I can’t help it! Pair them with a black top and you’ll be good for a night out.

SHOES

So I’m on a shoe kick. I just want all the booties this year – they are so so good! My first pair I’m splurging on are these chunky black booties. They look comfy and I feel like I could kinda rock them year round! The snakeskin booties have been on my wishlist since last year. I just feel like they are super versatile and another good year round bootie to wear with jeans and shorts. I’m going crazy for these patent leather slip on sneakers. THE GREEN COLOR IS AMAZING. And they’re under $100 so I feel like I gotta grab em! Especially when our LA weather is so bipolar it’s nice to have a good sneaker to do when it’s warmer.

ACCESSORIES

My two obsessions this year: hats and dainty hoop earrings. I found this leather cabby hat and it is oh so cute. It would look so fun with  a little street chic outfit.

These hoops are THE BEST. I love how dainty they are and the rainbow is super cool for a little pop. You can’t tel they’re rainbow until you get close up! Layer them with other earrings to get that cool girl look that’s in this year!

Styling fuzzy slides into fall

HELLLER MY GALS!

Happy September 13. Hope all of y’all are having a great week/month/year so far. It’s that weird time of year, especially down here in South Louisiana where it’s still 90 degrees outside and raining everyday? Yeah, our weather is extremely bi-polar which does not lend itself easily to dressing for “fall.” My favorite way to get into the fall spirit is to incorporate transition pieces into my summer basics for a fall vibe.

FUZZY SLIDES. NEED I SAY MORE?

What I used to honestly DESPISE as a trend has finally won me over in the form of this embellished slide from Target. Yes y’all, you heard me right. Target with alll the deals (y’all know I am a HUGE fan). But back to the slides. I’ve been living in them the past week. Dresses, jeans, skirts – you name it and it’ll probably look amaze with these! This is the only way for this southern Louisiana girl to get her fur fix while it’s still so warm out. Here’s all my favorite fuzzy slides for the fall linked for y’all below!

hat (sold out) // bracelets // dress // fuzzy slides // purse (sold out)

We have to chat about this dress. It’s from one of my all-time fave brands and it’s under $55! Lately I’ve been all about the faux-leopard print and I love how it’s incorporated into the flowers on this shift. Orange, green, black and cream are such great colors to take into fall with you. I would so rock this dress in the summer with more white-toned accessories to lighten it up. Since I was going for a darker vibe, I opted for black to make everything pop.

Dressing for gameday with the neutrals in your closet

GAMEDAY GAMEDAY GAMEDAY! Only the best time of year for us southern gals. I’ve teamed up with one of my blogger pals, Caroline for today’s post (yay)! We work together so we chat lots about clothes (no really we chat too much about clothes). The two of us aren’t huge purple and gold fans which prompted us to do this post with some fun gameday looks you can create with the neutrals you already own!

This look is so effortless and cool – I love it. A simple tee (whatever color you have will work), cutoffs, sneakers and a denim jacket for that cool factor. I’ve also been super into belts lately so I added a lighter toned belt that pops against my favorite black cut offs. My gold platform converse, which quickly became my favorite shoes this summer, are the best for walking all day. The key here is comfort!

SIMPLE TEE + CUTOFFS + BELT + SNEAKERS = CASUAL COOL

Let’s talk clear. Bags that is. They’re required for pretty much any sporting event and if you’re anything like me you pretty much hate them. I struggled to find one that I liked that wouldn’t break the bank. Amazon ended up being my savior! My bag is linked here. It’s under $25, super stylish, and it’s got lots of room for all my gameday essentials! Beaded coin purses are my favorite way to jazz these babies up. There are so many made in cool colors and funny sayings now so you can find one that fits your mood.

MY ESSENTIALS FOR GAMEDAY

Life’s a marathon, not a sprint. I would like to think the same applies for gameday too. You’re out all day in the sun, trying to look like a 10 when ya actually look like a 2. It’s rough! There are a few things I always be sure to carry around with me to avoid looking like plague.

OIL WIPES | MY FAVORITE LIPSTICK |GUM | PORTABLE PHONE CHARGER |  KOOZIE

Y’all head over to Caroline’s blog for more gameday inspo. She’s styling a funky little yellow striped set over on Frill Seeker. GO GO GO!

Here’s the link to my favorite gameday playlist here. XOXO

Things I’ve bought recently | Edition 3

Posted in Fashion
on 12/04/2017

Hey hey! Happy Thursday y’all! I thought I would do a little roundup of a bunch of things I’ve bought recently because these are some of my favorite posts to write. Pretty much everything is under $100 because ya girl is #ballinonabudget. Go ahead and scroll down to check all the newness out.

buddha girl bangles

I am obsessed with these bangles. I wear them every time I dress up because I love the pop they bring to my outfits. They are weatherproof, TSA proof, and life proof! Did I mention they would be a good Christmas gift? The story behind them is so cool and I have been going crazy saying my serenity prayers on them when I get flustered.

mumu purple halter top

I snagged this top during the MuMu black Friday sale for around $35. Say whaattt? Yeah, I was thinking this would be perfect for game days (peep the lavender color) but also could be super cute during the holidays for a little party outfit!

black-cheetah-ootd-lgip-2cabby hat

It’s me trying to get on board with this new trend.. cabby hats? Can’t say I’ve ever been a hat gal before but I thought I should try it out. I found a bunch of budget friendly options at Forever (I’m talking under $20 y’all) so don’t be too scared to try this trend out! I love how it edges up a look.

joa sweater

Chunky. Pink. Perfect. Yep, that pretty much sums up this sweater. It is my new favorite thing ever and goes great with jeans and whatever else you want to pair it with! It’s under $80 and comes in a bunch of great neutral (and fun) options.

black-cheetah-ootd-lgip-9seychelles patent leather booties

I scored these babies off Revolve for $80. I was looking for months for a cute trendy pair of chunky heeled booties. Nude? Patent? Leather? Omg, how freaking fun! Since they hit right on my lower leg, I think they’re great paired with skirts, dresses, and would also be so good with a pair of cropped jeans (gonna rock em with these)!

marley lilly sweater

My favorite throw on and go sweater. I always grab this sweater for school because it looks great with yoga pants or active shorts. Every time I wear it, I get soo many complements on it! Plus, it’s on sale right now!

Thanks for reading! I’m taking my finals this week so by next Monday I will be a free woman (aka no school for a month.. wahoo)!

NYC recap

Posted in Fashion, Lifestyle
on 11/01/2017

As a girl who NEVER gets away, this long weekend up north was just what I needed. My roommate is living in NYC this semester due to her internship in the city. I was absolutely dying to get up there to visit with her, sightsee (this was only my second trip to NYC), and eat our way through the city.

I ended up taking the earliest flight I could find on Friday morning so I could get there with time to spare in the afternoon. I arrived in NYC at around 1:30 and got on a bus that took me to city. I was getting off at Penn station (they told me it was the second stop) so that’s where I got off.. turns out it wasn’t Penn station lol. So I bobbed and weaved through the streets of NYC with my suitcase in tow, headed to Catherine’s apartment.

We made a beeline for Ellen’s Stardust Diner (aka the most touristy restaurant in all of NYC, besides the Times Square Olive Garden lol) where your waiters do karaoke while you eat. Honestly, amazing. I felt like I was watching a Glee episode the entire meal but I was loving it!!

After the Stardust diner, it was starting to get chilly but we trekked over to the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) to check out the fashion exhibit they had going. Oh, and we got in for free since it was a Friday! Add that to ya bucket list.

Omigosh, y’all. If you love museums and fashion history you MUST go visit this exhibit at MoMA. It was seriously the coolest thing. As a fashion student, seeing things that I have been learning about in my classes and being able to name the designer or history of it was such a great feeling. Fashion lovers unite!

burger + fries tees // spanx leggings (on me) // superega platforms

Catherine and I met up with my bestie from home Gav for a Halloween party. Obviously we had to be burger and fries. Literally the easiest, best costume (and comfy too). We had a little too much fun on Friday night! A slice of $1 pizza was absolutely needed after that night (Two Bros has my heart).

dress // sunglasses

Saturday morning started off on the subway headed to the Financial district. We got Joe’s bagels… omg the best bagel I have ever had and totally worth the 15 min wait. Then made our way to the Staten Island ferry (where we met up with Catherine’s friend from internship, Isa and her friend Sophia) so we could have a free shot at seeing the Statue of Liberty. The weather was perfect and honestly we were scared that the ferry would be freezing, but it was not bad at all!

After Staten Island was DUMBO, Brooklyn. To be exact, the HOME of Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl. Yes, I was totally fan-girling. I can’t help myself y’all. It was the cutest little place. We ended up hanging out in DUMBO’s park for an hour. The view of the Brooklyn bridge and the city was so gorgeous.

A picnic in Central Park was up next. We racked up at Whole Foods on all the essentials: a baguette, brie, sandwiches, soups, cookies, and champagne. With the picnic blanket spread out, we feasted our hearts out (I was hella hungry).

Sunday was super gloomy and it was raining all day long. We visited our favorite founding father’s grave at Trinity Church, Carrie Bradshaw’s stoop in Greenwich Village and then went to SoHo for some retail therapy.

I racked up on some fabulous basics from my faves: Zara, H&M, Steve Madden, and Bloomingdales. My flight was at 5:55pm so I had to head back to the airport after SoHo. It got delayed so I arrived back in NOLA pretty late.

Thank you NYC for giving me a fabulous weekend and thank you to my hosts who made everything all the better (Gav and Catherine)!!

lots of love, Madison

Life Lately | September edition

on 10/18/2017

Well hellllooo there friends. Better late than never to make a life lately post for September? Lol I am totally behind on blog posts due to my insane school schedule. I promise I will get back into the swing of things! September was the start of football season, and the continuation of some warm weather for us Southern girls. Most of my free time was spent outdoors tailgating or taking blog pics… what a life lol.

sept-life-lately-2-lgipFOOTBALL SEASON… MY FAVORITE SEASON. This game day was our first of the year and let me tell ya it was so great to be back in Death Valley again!! Due to the excruciating heat, I opted for a simple, light-weight outfit — tank, skort and tennis shoes (which literally took a chunk of skin off the back of my heel.. so painful. 10/10 would not recommend these bad boys for game day).

sept-life-lately-1-lgipBlack and brown… a combination I can’t get enough of. These booties are from last season and they’re still super on trend for this year. I am loving these black jeans too (only $25 from target) and I swear I wear them at least 3 times a week haha. I’ll link some similar booties and my jeans below.

Alpha Phifa was this month and man was it fun!! Super hot, but fun. We braved the heat all day and I got a little sun but hey, at least it was for a good cause! #forthehearts

sept-life-lately-6-lgipUgh, can’t say enough of how thankful I am to have a friend who enjoys this process as much as I do. Maddie is behind the camera for many of my posts and she’s one of the reasons why I can continue to do what I do on this lil corner of the internet!

sept-life-lately-7-lgipFun brunette tee for a fun brunette. I think I wear this shirt too much but ya know what.. we all have our flaws. I styled it for transitioning into fall considering it is still warm over here in Louisiana. Check out the post here!

How to transition your wardrobe into fall like a pro | The suede dress

Posted in Fashion
on 10/06/2017

Suede is easily one of my favorite fall trends. It just brings a little something rustic to the outfit and I am so into it. We’re continuing with my transitioning into fall series and today it’s all about the suede dress. I know you have one in your closet, pretty sure we all do. I’ll show y’all how I style this piece while it’s still warm out!

suede dress (similar) // mini mac cross body // hoops // bracelet stack // ray bans // booties (similar)

I started off with the dress and then I added the boots…. and somehow I ended up being head to toe in suede oops :-) I think mixing the two suede colors was a nice way to add a little interest to the outfit. For accessories, I opted for more brown tones (these bracelets have been a recent fave).

Key piece: the suede dress

This lil number is from Tobi and I got the best deal on it! Unfortunately it was on sale last spring, but I’m linking a few similar options for y’all! I love a good shift dress and the lace up from just makes it all the better.
