This week’s Manicure SUNday is dedicated to this creamy grey hue from Essie’s Spring Collection, Petal Pushers. I decided it was time to get out of my rut/comfort zone of OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark, which I’ve been wearing back to back for the past four months. I’ve always loved Essie polishes, and this one is no different. Love the formulation and two coats was all I needed.

PS: Check out my adorable mug! Shoutout to my Harry Styles lovin’ pal, Cat for it!

What color is on your nails right now?

Gettin’ my school on | 5 Things you Should do at the Start of a new Semester

5-things-to-do-at-the-start-of-a-new-semester-1-lgip

Well y’all, it’s officially that time to get back into the school grind. Spring semester has arrived, and I am feeling motivated, ready to accomplish everything I didn’t last semester. I finally get to take my major classes and I am so excited to jump right into the fashion world and all it has to offer. At the start of a semester, I always like to get all of my stuff together. Here are five things I always am sure to take care of before a new semester…

// one / plan out my schedule visually //

The system that we use at LSU, doesn’t show our schedule to us in a block format, but just as a list of times and classes. I personally am such a visual person, I need to see everything blocked out to get a sense of what my day/week will look like. I use myEdu to do this, and it’s awesome because it actually knows all of LSU’s courses and will come up with times and professors when you enter a course number. You can also make a profile that allows you to track your degree progress and browse for jobs.

// two / syllabus, syllabus, syllabus //

As a general rule of thumb for any course, I always read through the course syllabus before going to class. I like to start putting dates into my calendar and most professors already have the whole semester planned out. The course syllabus helps me to know what to expect as far as grades go, how many tests I’ll have and what format they’ll be in, as well as my professor’s office hours.

// three / rate my professor //

I like to check Rate my Professor before I get to class. It’s super helpful to hear feedback from other students on whether or not to buy the textbook, take good notes, etc.

// four / make a rough outline of the semester in my planner//

When I know where my semester is headed, I feel a lot less anxious. Using my syllabus, I like to put some rough dates in my calendar so I can start to plan ahead. At the beginning of the semester I also pick my color pen for each class, which I use to write in my planner with.

// five / school supplies //

For the most part, I don’t need extra supplies per class, so I like to pick up some basics before the start of a semester. My first semester I used a huge five subject notebook, which I liked, but this semester I’ve decided to use a binder since a lot of my classes involve print outs. I used a binder all throughout high school and I loved how organized everything was. I always pick up some nice new pens (my faves are Sharpie pens) and some loose leaf paper too.

What do y’all do at the start of a new semester?

Winter essentials for a winter in Southern Louisiana

Posted in Fashion
on 01/10/2016

Since it’s FINALLY decided to get cold here in Southern Louisiana, I’ve had to break out some of my winter essentials for wear. I tend to gravitate towards the same basic pieces and then I’ll add some color with accessories scarves, jewelry, or even lip color. Well, let’s get to it y’all! Here are some of my winter essentials for this South Louisiana weather…

so-la-winter-essentials-1-lgip

Puffer Vest // Bean Boots // Ray Bans // Field Jacket // Chunky Scarf // Hunter Boots

// Puffer Vest //

Seriously one of my all-time favorite pieces ever. I have quite a few vests in multiple colors, so I really could throw this baby on over any outfit. It’s perfect for a day when it’s not exactly cold enough for a jacket, or even when it get’s cold I’ll wear it underneath a jacket for some more warmth. I’ve styled one of my favorite vests, the J. Crew Factory herringbone quilted vest here.

// Bean Boots //

After many seasons of lusting over these, I bit the bullet and got a pair last year. My sweet Mama is actually Maine born-and-raised so she helped me with the sizing since she knows her stuff (you should order a size down from your normal size). I love breaking these out in the winter time with some warm knit socks over leggings or even jeans. They are a super versatile shoe that can be worn in cold or even wet weather.

// Ray Bans //

In my book, a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses is an essential ALWAYS. I carry at least one pair around with me at all times. These aviators with green flash lenses are perfect to add a pop of color to my outfit. See how I wear them in the winter time here, here, and here.

// Field Jacket //

I love this jacket to layer over a vest or even to throw on over a simple top. It’s waxed so it’s super structured but it’s such a classic look. I scored it on eBay for around $50 with the tags and everything, so I love showing off this great find.

// Chunky Scarf //

Last season, I picked this up in white and black from Old Navy. I love adding a chunky knit scarf to any outfit to warm it up, or even to make it a little more casual. These scarves come in so many different colors, you’ll be able to find one to match any outfit.

// Hunter Boots //

I featured these in my Wednesday post this week. I normally always pair them with something neutral on top since they are such a show stopper. Wearing some super thick, knit socks is always a must with these bad boys to ensure my feet keep warm. Perfect for cold and/or wet weather just like my Bean Boots!

What are your winter essentials for where you live?

I finally was able to take a real break this week and I always love the idea of playing tourist in my own city for fun. Living in Baton Rouge, we don’t get to go to NOLA as much as I did in high school since it’s not the quickest trip. When I’m home, I make it a point to head into the city. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and hopefully someday I’ll be able to live there.

Maddie, Zach and I went Uptown to Magazine Street, Oak Street and St. Charles to do a little exploring and picture taking. The weather has been super duper bi-polar this winter, and it was surprisingly actually pretty chilly. I’m one of those people who wouldn’t dare to ruin an outfit with some chunky layers just to keep warm, so of course I had to stay warm in style.

Maddie and I both chose to rock our Hunters (which we LUURRVE) and some jeans. We are super into ripped jeans, especially in this medium wash. I opted for a monochromatic top half featuring a chunky oatmeal colored knit sweater from Madewell (which I borrowed from Maddie #blessed), and my cream quilted puffer vest from J Crew. Maddie is sporting a pale pale blue colored basic tee from Urban and for warmth she added an olive army-inspired jacket and chunky scarf.

I took a few shots of Zach just to show y’all how much he was SLAYING. There are so many things I could say about Zach, but really I’ll just leave it at the fact that he used to wear ugly tennis shoes and jeans… Look at him now. Started from the bottom now he’s here. Zach doesn’t get cold easily so he opted for some short navy shorts with a belt, basic white tee and denim jacket. His urban, yet preppy look wasn’t complete without a Vineyard Vines hat and some Adidas Stan Smiths.

Cheers to 2016! | LGIP New Years Resolutions

Posted in Lifestyle
on 01/03/2016

cheers-to-2016-lgip

Hey y’all, this is my first post of 2016 ahh. I thought it would only be fitting to talk with y’all about my new years resolutions (actually I’d like to call them goals because that is more what they are) and some things I hope to accomplish this upcoming year.

// Make a blog schedule and stick to it //

Last semester, I really struggled to keep up with my blog schedule. I had originally hoped to post three times a week, but I think that at the time that was too much for me. Getting adjusted to college and sorority life was hard on my time management skills. This year, I’d like to have new posts up on Sundays and Wednesdays. I can plan content ad take pictures in between/ahead of schedule. If I can plan out my whole month in advance, it’ll help me bunches as well!

// Work out at least once a week //

Classic. Yes, I know. I think that working out once a week is a very attainable goal. I feel like since I’ve been at school, my diet has gone down the drain and I have started to eat poorly in addition to not working out. I would just like to keep myself at an ideal healthy weight and start to tone some muscle!

// Take fashion risks //

I’d definitely like to try and take some risks with my style and mix things up a lil! I really tend to play things super safe, which is fine, but taking risks will push me out of my comfort zone, which is something I think would be fantastic for me. I’ll keep y’all updated on this one!

// Continue to put away money for my college fund //

As I earn money here and there (since I don’t normally work but on breaks), I want to start putting away a small fraction of it for my college savings. I’ve depleted some within my first semester, but I need to be saving for upcoming semesters sorority as well as my extra fees.

// Grow my business as well as my blog //

Through social media, as well as word of mouth, I hope to continue to grow my blog as well as Etsy shop, the brunette and co. I would love to be able to utilize my blog as an outlet to propel me into the fashion industry. Brunette and co. will help me learn time management, money management as well as marketing skills I will be able to apply to my career.

// Become more involved in Alpha Phi //

Being on our executive board as Director of finance will help me get involved through service. I really hope that I can meet some more sisters whom I don’t already know, and make a positive impact on the Greek life experience of other sisters.

What are your new years resolutions for 2016? Let me know in the comments!

All I want for Christmas is…. | LGIP Christmas List 2015

Posted in Lifestyle
on 12/21/2015

Is it just me or is it every time Christmas rolls around I have the HARDEST time coming up with a list? Throughout the year I am always on Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram and seeing things that make me go “OMG I WANT!” but then Christmas list making comes and hits me like a brick. I seriously struggled this year, y’all. I think the older I get, the more I realize that I don’t really need anything for Christmas, ya know? Well after some thought, I present to you my Christmas List 2015.

all-i-want-for-christmas-is-1-lgip

Ray Ban Aviators // J Crew Factory PJ Set // Blanket Scarf // S’well Bottle

// Ray Ban Aviators //

As you all well know- I am sunglass obsessed. Back in July, I broke my favorite pair of Ray Ban Aviators {I talk about this and about my newer pair in this post}. It was such a sad day for me… I had those glasses for four years. They were the first pair I was able to keep up with in the history of EVER. Nevertheless, I miss them dearly and thought I would ask for a new pair of them for Christmas this year.

// J Crew Factory PJ Set //

I’ve recently been on a PJ kick.. Is that even I real thing? I’m not sure but all I know is I’ve been really wanting a PJ set to cozy up in on Sunday mornings when I have nothing to do. Sleeping in a PJ set actually makes me feel like I have my life together somewhat.. lol only me. I plan on monogramming these to add my own flair to them!

// Blanket Scarf //

Blanket scarves are all the rage this season. I’ve seen them on my Instagram feed at least once a day for the past month or two. I love scarves but unfortunately it hasn’t really been cold enough here for me to rock them :( I’m hoping the weather will cool down and I can rock a chunky blanket scarf one day! A girl can only dream….

// S’well Bottle //

Along with being sunglass, PJ and scarf obsessed at the moment, I have always been a fan of water bottles. My favorite are Camelbacks and Tervis Tumblers. I always bring a bottle of water with me to work or to my classes to be sure I’m staying hydrated. Having an adorable water bottle really does make me want to drink water. S’well bottles keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 12 hours. They’ve got so many patterns and colors, it was so hard to choose.

Well there you have it readers, my 2015 Christmas List. What are y’all asking for this year? Any of the same things that are on my list?

And if you’re still doing some last minute shopping… believe me I feel your pain. Keep this in mind!

yougotthis1

Much love y’all. Until next post..

How adorable is this black and white look featuring my favorite fall/winter piece a vest? I have been known to be vest obsessed. I love a simple outfit with a vest as a pop. This herringbone one from J Crew factory took me FORVER to snag.

I paired it with this adorable little suede swing skirt with button detail, and a basic long sleeve tee. I love the simplistic look of this black and white outfit. I finished things off with my Mini MAC and black booties.

On a side note, how can I just say how excited I am for Christmas? I can’t wait to spend time with my family and enjoy some quality food!

How to rock bold lips this holiday season | My fave lip products under $10

Posted in Beauty
on 12/14/2015

Bold lips are a favorite trend of mine year round, but for the holidays, I think it’s especially fun. I’ve decided to dedicate a whole post to help you rock bold lips this season. All of the products I’m talking about in this post are under $10!

how-to-rock-bold-lips-1-lgip

//Prep//

LUSH Lip Scrub: If you want to rock a bold lip, you’ve got to slough that dry skin off. This LUSH lip scrub is my favorite thing ever. You scrub it on your lips with your finger and it’s even edible so you can lick it off when you’re done. My favorite flavor is Mint Julip but Bubblegum and the limited edition Santa lip scrub (it tastes like Coke) are some contenders.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve: This is my holy grail product. I love love love it. These lil tubs will last for FOREVER. After I brush my teeth, I put this on. It’s not sticky, and not too thick either. It gives my lips the perfect amount of moisture. Keeping lips hydrated is essential to rocking bold lips. This is an awesome follow up to the lip scrub before you apply your bold lip color.

//Color//

Revlon Lip Butters are the best. They are super creamy, bold lipsticks with a perfect amount of moisture in them. I only own three, but I plan on getting a few more because they are that good. Plus they’re all under $10!

Candy Apple: This one is the perfect candy apple red color for any occasion. It’s adorable for a tacky Christmas party or even to wear with an adorable lil cocktail dress to a fancy Christmas bash. Whatever the occasion, you’ll look super festive!

Pink Truffle: The easy neutral for your holiday season. It looks good with anything, and it can really be dressed up/dressed down. This color is super cute to wear with some jeans and boots or with a super chunky scarf and sweater. It complements any skin tone and these neutral browny colors are in this season (and we have Kylie Jenner to thank for that!)

Lollipop: I call this one my Frenchy lipstick because it’s what I wore in Grease (lol). It’s a gorgeous bright pink that jazzes up any outfit. I think bright pinks aren’t always thought of as the most wearable color, but I have to say I love this one for its unconventionality. Great for a holiday party, night on the town or even to add a pop to your daytime look.

What your favorite beauty trend for the holiday season? Let me know in the comments!
