Fallin for these finds… | My fall wishlist

Posted in Fashion
on 09/29/2017

HAPPY FALL Y’ALL! How is everyone’s week going? I for one am absolutely living for this weekend. It’s a home game here at LSU and I actually get to go (had to work the last game) so whoop.

I have been online shopping like no other lately and I’ve complied a list of a few things I’m “fall”ing for. Lol get it?! Let’s get into this!

tortoise hoops // over the knee boots // ruffled skort // pom pom earrings // pom pom sneakers // black aviators

FALL TIME HAS ME SO GIDDY YOU GUYS! I am really loving my neutrals (as always) with pops of color — like these fabulous pom pom earrings from Bauble Bar. Are over the knee boots still a thing? I feel like they’ll at least be in for another season or two so I’ve been wanting to grab a pair for this fall. Nordstrom rack has a few, along with 6pm too! These Dolce Vita ones have great reviews. Now I just gotta choose a color… this dark charcoal brown is amazing, but classic black.. Hm.. I’ve been on a skorts kick lately too and this $16 black ruffled number from Forever 21 is fun and flirty and won’t break the bank! These tortoise-shell hoops just scream fall to me! They’re under $15 and I cannot wait to wear them with all my neutral outfits this season.

What’s everyone’s current wish list? I wanna hear! Leave me some comments down below!

How to transition your wardrobe into fall like a pro | The military jacket

Posted in Fashion
on 09/20/2017
To all my Southern gals, I feel you. While everyone else is buying sweaters and boots and leggings and drinking PSLs (can you believe I’ve never had one of those) we’re still over here braving the heat. Yeah, yesterday it was 80 degrees over here in Louisiana (cue the ugh).
I’m getting pumped for fall and wanting to incorporate some fall pieces into my wardrobe but it’s a real ordeal let me tell ya.
So I figured I’d start a little series. It’ll feature three key pieces you need for fall and I’ll show ya how to transition them. With this heat it’s tough, but we’ll figure it out! Let’s get into part one of three!

fun brunette tee (MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHIRT EVER) // military jacket (a few seasons ago, but I’m linking similar) // jean shorts // platform sneakers // puff ball earrings // sunglasses // cross body bag

I wish y’all could’ve seen me shooting this #ootd I was DRIPPING in sweat. This heat is not funny y’all. It’s already nearing the end of September and I just wish we could get some sort of chill in the air… wishful thinking I know.

Given the heat, I decided to pair a pretty summery/warm weather outfit with a military jacket for some #fallfeels. The boxy military jacket is such a strong contrast to my fun earrings and sunglasses but somehow it works. I threw on my favorite tee-shirt of all time under it and some jean shorts (here we go again). My Superegas are making their debut on LGIP finally!! I had been wanting to scoop a pair for so long and I recently caved in. I absolutely love them. I’m still breaking them in, but I have a feeling they’ll be super-duper comfy once I do.

If you’re not into the whole shorts thing, I would pair this jacket with a skirt and tee combo too.

Key piece: the military jacket

The military jacket is a staple in my closet. I wear it with literally anything and everything. It’s so amazing to layer with other pieces. When the temps drop (not much in Southern LA but hey), I’ll layer a vest underneath this bad boy for extra warmth! Price points vary, but I am sure you will be able to find a jacket in your price range. I’m going to link a bunch of options below for y’all! Get yourself one — I know you will wear the heck out of it.

Why you need a pair of cropped jeans + how to style them

Posted in Fashion
on 08/30/2017

Alright y’all, hear me out. Cropped jeans– your new fall staple. Trust me on this. I have to admit I was a little bit nervous to hop on this train but hey, I did it, and I sure am glad. They’re definitely going to be a staple in my closet this fall. I feel like they elevate any casual look. Did I mention they’re hella comfy? Yeah, let me show ya how to rock these things.

jeans | platform sneakers (similar) | tee | sunglasses | earrings | crossbody

I wanted to keep the entire outfit simple so I just paired the jeans with a keyhole cut out tee (is that what you even call it lol) front-tucked to show off the buttons. This tee has been one of my faves this summer and fall. It’s so great to be able to style it for any season. I’ve done it with jeans, a denim skirt, denim shorts, black skirt… you name it and I’ve probably paired the two together lol.

Given the shorter length of the jeans, I felt like I needed a shoe with some height. These fun platform sneakers were a steal at $22 from my local Dillard’s outlet. I’m still sneaker crazy y’all — sorry not sorry about it. A platform sandal would be another good option too!

The Jeans

These bad boys are Free People and they’re hella comfy. The button detail on the front is so fun and I also love the seams up the front (they lengthen your legs). They’re under $80 and well worth it. I found a pair very similar under $40 which I’ll link below for y’all!

Lots of love,

Madison

PS: How amazing are these pics? Shouts to my pal, Elie for em! Y’all have to go check out this portfolio here (insta) and here (website)!

Sneaker Night | My favorite Sneakers under $100

Posted in Fashion
on 07/12/2017

Heller friends!! I’m coming at ya today with a topic I could gush about for hours — sneakers. They’re comfy, stylish and I can’t get enough of them. Since I am always ballin on a budget I set out to find some sneaks under $100.

tassel sneakers // tassel slides // embroidered espadrille sneakers // superega platform sneakers // platform sneakers

These tassel sneakers are so bomb. They’re really comfy and I love the flair that the tassels add to any outfit. Make sure ya check em out in the slide version too (good for those of y’all who that hate dealing with blistered Achilles).

So my love for espadrilles has not stopped since my first mention of them here, haha. I’m about to add these embroidered espadrilles to my cart because I cannot get over how stinking cute they are!! Ugh I’m imagining all the outfits I would wear with them… swoon!

Platform sneakers… you’ve seen them and you’ve probably stayed away but I’m here to tell ya embrace them. They are so dang FUN. I especially love the grey Supergas and I think I may pick them up because they would be a great class shoe.

Y’all hop on this sneaker train now. Leave me a comment below if you end up giving any of my picks a try!

Styling a faux leather skirt for daytime

Posted in Fashion
on 12/14/2016

It’s finnallllyyyy winter break over here in LA, + I could not be happier to have a few weeks away from school work. Although it won’t be much of a break for me (I’ll be working almost everyday in BR + at home), I’m looking forward to it. My first OOTD in forever is dedicated to this faux leather mini, that I picked up for $12!

Faux leather skirts are super easy to come by, and they won’t break the bank either. Forever 21 has some great options if you’re wanting to spend next to nothing. The great thing about them is how easy they are to dress up + dress down. Dressing them down is not something I have seen often, but it was really easy to achieve. I pulled together a few options if you’re wanting to add this staple to your closet.

Daytime wear meant I needed to do some coverage up top to balance out the length of the skirt. A white sweater + one of my favorite vests topped off this super simple look. The contrast of the black + cognac of the skirt is something I thought made this outfit a lot less bland. But as always, I am a lover of neutrals + had the hardest time straying away (lol).

Fall finds

Posted in Fashion
on 11/09/2016

Happy hump day friends! I am completely obsessed with the idea of getting some cooler weather down here in Southern LA (it’s still in the 70s). In preparation for the fall season, I rounded up some finds that I  cannot wait to buy + break out!

fall-finds-lgip

Fall is the season of neutrals in my opinion. My wardrobe normally consists of neutral colors, and this season is no exception. I’m becoming crazy over shoes — booties + sneakers especially. These open toed booties from Dolce Vita are fabulous! They have a chunky heel which makes them comfortable, + the sage suede color would pair with black jeans and medium wash great! If you don’t live in a box you would know that Adidas superstars are all the rage right now. The gold is something I haven’t seen around, + it’s a bit more my speed than the classic black. I’ll be purchasing these bad boys very soon to wear with jeans, leggings, + sweater dresses! Comfort + style — it cannot get any better! Jewelry wise — I’m into chokers (as I’m sure you could tell by my last post) and hoop earrings (paging 2002). Bauble Bar is always one of my favorite stops for great + affordable statement pieces. Bibs are so fun with a simple top to dress things up. The bib I’m loving is actually two pieces — choker and bib so it is really versatile (more bang for you buck, amiright?). Fall weather calls for some sweaters + chunky ones are the best! h&m has some really afforable pieces if you’re in the market for a sweater (loving this one). Semi formal season is also upon us so I’ve been scouring the web for some affordable rompers (I love a good romper). Tobi has a great selection + I found this one on a whim! I love the material +the girly peplum. A choker would be fab with this!

Have y’all created a fall wishlist? Send me some suggestions! I need some new clothes badly (pay day is coming soon…)!!

DIY Choker tutorial

Posted in Fashion
on 11/04/2016

Chokers are currently my go-to accessory for any outfit. I love the simplicity of them + the edgy vibe they have. Prices can range for chokers, depending on what you’re getting. Making chokers is such a fun little DIY + not to mention — it’s super cheap! Let’s get into it, y’all….

dii-choker-lgip

You’ll need…

Ribbon (pick whatever your heart desires — velvet, sparkly, faux snakeskin, lace (the options are endless))

A few inches of chain (gold or silver)

Jump rings (gold or silver to match your chain)

Ribbon crimps (to match chain and jump rings)

Clasps (to match all of the above)

Scissors

Pliers

dii-choker-lgip dii-choker-lgip

The easiest DIY you’ll ever do…

Alright, alright, alright — here we go! First step is to take your ribbon and cut it to size for your neck. You’ll want to make it about a 1/2 inch shorter so you can hook it on the chain and not have it be too big. Take your ribbon crimps, put one on each side of the ribbon and use your pliers to close it onto your ribbon. With jump rings, take your chain and attach it to one ribbon crimp + then attach your clasp to the other (honestly this is the hardest part). *cue the oohs and aaahhhs* You’re done!

dii-choker-lgip

See? I told y’all this is the easiest DIY you’ll ever do. Now go out there and wear that choker with some pride! When people ask you where you got it, you can proudly tell them “I made this with my own two hands” *hair flip*

If any of y’all try this out, please send me pictures of your finished product! I would love to see it!

Until next time….

Life lately | October edition

Posted in Uncategorized
on 10/26/2016

What’s good y’all?! October was a pretty good month! Here’s my recap…

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

So I’ve been working a research paper for my stage makeup class + I have to say it’s honestly the most fun paper I’ve ever written. The 1920s are such an intriguing time and so much action was happening in the world and the cosmetic industry. I’ve been doing loads of research and that may or may not have included a trip to my favorite destination, Barnes and Noble… #oops

I’ve been on the hunt for a job for as long as I can remember (honestly about 4 months y’all… this ain’t no joke). But…. I’m over the moon to announce I’ve finally got one!! Come visit me at Hemline Towne Center! Working for Hemline is something that I believe will really help me with my future career in the fashion industry so I cannot wait to start getting into the swing of things!

My #OOTD post this month featured this adorable (and affordable) tunic sweater. I paired it with some jeans + lace up chunky heels to dress it up. The perfect fall outfit!! Now if I could just get some cooler weather down here…
